Lesson Music
I have used Alfred's Basic Piano Library for years now. Everyone from my earliest beginners to my most advanced students use these books in one form or another. There are cute fun books for the little guys, full of pictures and diagrams and things to motivate them. And there are Masterworks Series for the more advanced students working on the classics.
I also usually introduce the Faber group with their Pop series as I am told over and over again it is more fun and easier if we recognize what we are playing. The Nancy and Randall Faber series incorporates Disney and other movie themes from Over The Rainbow and Colors of The Wind to The Prayer, Coldplay and Star Wars. Making it easier for me to find something for everyone.
Last but definitely not least. I use a number of resources for classics, so that I can make them available along the way to all ages and all level's. Ending of course with original classic pieces that I am fortunate to have many of my students playing.
I am always open to new music and the kids are great about bringing their ideas to me. Unless it's rap, we can usually find something they will enjoy trying. Something that will inspire. Everyone is asked to play classical music along the way but that doesn't mean I am not going to let them experiment with whomever is inspiring them this week, often it is the latest theme to a video game!
