February 4, 2010

Please be sure to check your latest statement for a note concerning "Love Songs" for Valentine's Day" It went home with your student hopefully this week. I hope all of you will be joining me the evening of February 21st at Christian Haven Home to entertain the residents with our favorite Love Songs for a belated Valentine's Day. We will be serving them cookies, (and perhaps a couple of you could help me get that together) after their evening meal at 5:30 in the evening. Students please let me know if you can attend and I will be sure to put you on the schedule, simply taking a moment to share your gift of Music will make me smile and I believe a few of the residents as well. See you there.

Sincerely

Janet Standish

Happy Spring Everyone.

Yes, I am teaching over spring break, with so many adult students not affected by school breaks and my school age students covering 5 different schools, it is no longer easy to match any school’s spring break.

So there will be normal, or “adjusted schedule” lessons, next week, along with some long lessons available. BE SURE to let me know if you will be out of town. Otherwise I will plan on you for your normal lesson time or an adjusted time if you would like.

Recital music will start going out next week. This year most students will be limited to one recital piece, as you know, Recitals have simply gotten too lengthy. So especially the advance students whose pieces can be quite long, will be doing one piece, there will be some exceptions with some special performances, duets etc. and the younger children will probably have an opportunity to play twice. But again due to the length and number of students performing, there will be some adjustments in this year’s Recital Music.

Please be sure to check out this website often for further Recital Updates.

Happy Holidays to all of you, and thank you to so many of you who managed to join us on Wednesday evening to entertain the residents of Christian Haven Home. The men and women there enjoyed the evening and assured me that all of your children are genius's, but we all knew that didn't we. I know how difficult it is to squeeze in one more thing this time of year, but your efforts and talents were definitely appreciated by all of the people who told me so, many times over after all of you had left on Wed evening. Thanks again, and please enjoy the pictures on this web site and don't hesitate to let me know if you would like a copy of one. A reminder I am not teaching on a regular schedule the next two weeks as we enjoy the Holiday season, but lessons are available to those who would like, on a somewhat limited schedule both weeks, on Monday afternoons and Tuesday mornings. Have a Very Merry Christmas, May we remember our Many Blessings and face our many challenges. And May the New Year Bring us all Peace and Optimism.

Merry Christmas

Sincerely

Have your children done something unusual with their talent to give a gift, send a note, participate in a performance at Church or in a talent show? Please be sure to share with me and with your permission I would love to share it with all of my students and their parents.

Cookies and Carols
Wednesday, December 17th

Please join us as we celebrate the Holidays and share our time and talents with the residents and staff of Grand Haven Christian Home.

I was so pleased when a number of my teenage students asked if we could return to Grand Haven Christian this year. Last Year (our first year to celebrate the season in this way) was definitely a success and they are so pleased to hear we would like to come back.

So grab your music, a smile and some cookies and come join us on Wednesday December 17th at 6:30 PM at 704 Pennoyer in Grand Haven.
Everyone is encouraged to play “but there is no pressure” and everyone is asked to visit with the residents and deliver plates of cookies and smiles. We hope to have enough of you playing to fill about an hour and a half.

Parents please join us, sit, have a cup of coffee, visit with each other and the residents and enjoy the music of the season.

Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

Sincerely

Janet Standish

Hi Parents and Students

Today it is hard to believe with all of the beautiful weather we have been having, however....The Holidays are just around the corner. Time to dig out your Christmas Music and bring it along to lessons. A lot of you have moved well beyond the book that you may have had last year. Some of you are now into larger more comprehensive books, that we will be glad to pick up again and move on in. And still others (my beginner students) will be playing Christmas Music for the first time. Parents of my young beginners. Be on the look out because Christmas is about to come early to your house. I apologize for competing with the stores, in shifting your attention to Christmas so prematurely, but in my world it is important that you hear the sound of Christmas Carols in your home on Christmas Eve. So we start in the next week or so to make sure there is a wide range of Christmas Carols in your child's repertoire this Holiday Season :-)

Happy Fall

Sincerely

Well Here We Go Again!!!!

“IN” the ongoing saga of life in the Standish Household, there is about to be a change in location. We have decided if no one love’s out Beach House as much as we do, we should go back and give it some tender loving care and make a more serious attempt to sell the “White One on the Hill”.
So by the time we hit next Monday afternoon and lesson time, I should be well settled into the “new studio” on the top floor of the “Beach House”. 9553 Whispering Sands for those of you who weren’t students a couple of years ago.  No more dealing with the challenging driveway and no more side door entrance. As of next Monday, please plan to “enter” at the Beach House over the bridge and through the front door and up the stairs to the left. Please remember it is more important than ever “NO Shoes” there will be a rug in the entrance for them. The very big up side to all of this, is “I” “We” get the big office upstairs this time around and what a great studio it will be.
Looking forward to seeing all of you next week as we settle in to what we hope will be the last move “forever” as far as I am concerned :-).

See you next week. Questions or concerns call 616 296 0282

Sincerely

Janet Standish

The schedule as it is written is currently on this website, there are no phone numbers available to protect your privacy. If you need a change in your schedule just give me a call and I can work it out for you. We will decide as a group later if we want phone numbers posted to this site.

I currently have room for maybe 2 new young students, so if you know of anyone interested in lessons please have them contact me. I do not have any new students this year from Rosy Mound, but do have them from St. Mary's, Mary A White, Ferry Elementary School and Eagle Crest National Heritage Academy.

Also as always I am looking for a few interested ADULT students, they keep my life interesting and challenge me in a way that is entirely their own.
