Students now range in age from 7 to 70 and everyplace in between, and come from several different school systems in many communities. Her students study throughout the year, anything from current “Pop” to beloved “Classics” to obscure “New Age” concentrating as much as possible on what makes music special for them, giving them a broad view of the Musical World through her favorite instrument and soon theirs as well “The Piano” During the year they learn all of the basics and often share their time and talents at various community events around the area. Most participate in a Christmas Celebration that varies from year to year from entertaining each other to taking their smiles and music to others to share. The year culminates in a full recital at the close of the school year, which has now become a family favorite! Her youngest students frequently have in attendance parents, grandparents, siblings and friends. While her more mature students bring their own fan clubs along to cheer them on, often including the children who motivated them in the first place.
Music is everywhere says Janet. “You just need to slow down a little to hear it. That’s what I do, make sure students learn to hear the music and make it their own. It’s what I love to do. “
